Tunisienne - with the piper

The news on 26 February 2011 for Tunisia said: 3 killed in anti-government protests, people clashed with police in central Tunis, police in civilian dress armed with sticks searched for protesters on streets, huge crowds demanded the prime minister’s resignation, and so on. These reports came after “the biggest rally since President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali fled after weeks of unrest”.

Tunisia, with just over 10.4 million population, has Libya to the southeast, where heavy fighting is going on in its capital Tripoli, where Colonel Muammar Gaddafi is trying to contain the anti-government protesters.

Human rights groups such as Amnesty International and Protection International have reported that “basic human and political rights are not respected in Tunisia. Also, it is clubbed with China for denial of free internet access to its citizens, as part of the State censorship.
