The C-string is narrow as a g-string but without the band around the waist, leaving just a C shaped piece between the legs held in place firmly by a flexible internal frame. Since there is no material around the waist, the C-string eliminates the panty lines which thongs and other underwear create, and reduces the tan lines.

A more conservative style, a Cheeky covers a little more area, but exposes the bottom part of the buttocks, and also some are used as undergarments while others function as bikini bottoms.

The thong, a garment worn as either underwear or as a swimsuit by both women, may also be worn for traditional ceremonies or competitions such as Japanese sumo wrestling. It is worn as everyday wear in many indigenous societies, particularly in Africa, South America and Asia.

In some parts of India, just a strip of cloth (an ancient Indian version of the thong called a ‘Konaan’ or ‘Konakam’ made of any strip of cloth) used to be tied from a thread around the waist by men of all ages while bathing and changing in public ponds or indigenous swimming pools, just to cover the male genitals and it was considered perfectly within the limits of decency.

The origin of the word thong in the English language is from Old English ‘thwong’, meaning a flexible leather cord, and a commonly used name is tanga (or string tanga), like the German tanga. In Lithuanian language, it is ‘siaurikės’ (narrows), Italian ‘perizoma’ or ‘tanga’, in Turkish ‘ipli külot’ (stringed underpants), and in Bulgarian as ‘prashka’ (slingshot). In Israel the g-string thong is called Khutini. In Iran, it is called ‘Shortbandi’ (شورت بندی) in which ‘short’ (English: shorts) means ‘briefs’ and ‘bandi’ means ‘with a string’. A Puerto-Rican Spanish term is ‘gistro’, and interestingly, Australians refer to the g-string as a g-banger or simply banger. In Chinese dialects, the T-back is commonly called dingziku,

Thongs are accepted to some degree in most western countries, including most of Europe, North and South America, Australia, and parts of Asia. But thongs are banned in some countries in the Middle East. In some U.S. locations such as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Kure Beach, North Carolina, though there is no national law specifically relating to nudity, thongs, or toplessness in the United States. At least one U.S. city passed an anti-nudity ordinance in 2007 which however did not ban thongs.

In South American countries thongs are more widely used than in USA. In Brazil the thong bottoms with different levels of coverage is used by vast number of females of all ages. In Argentina, thongs are used by many teenage and young adult women but it is not the general type of swimsuit, it's acceptable but edgy.

Mariyah Moten, Miss Bikini Pakistan 2009

Mariyah was born in a Memon family in Karachi, Pakistan, as the eldest of three sisters and she currently resides in USA. A graduate of University of Houston (2008) with honors from the renowned hotel and restaurant management program at the Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, Mariyah Moten was placed Top 5 at the Miss Pakistan National Competition. After that Moten represented Pakistan at the Miss Tourism Queen International pageant in 2006, where she won the Miss Charity Title competing with 87 other contestants. Later in 2006 she competed in the Miss Bikini of the Universe Pageant held in Beihai, China.

It was the first time a Pakistani girl had participated in a bikini pageant, and it created controversial views, and Mariyah Moten won the Best In Media/ Miss Press title for being the most photographed and interviewed contestant in the Miss Bikini of the Universe Pageant.

In 2007 Mariyah Moten participated in another pageant, Miss Asia International 2007 where she won 2nd Runner up, a huge victory for Pakistan since this was the first time Pakistan placed in the Top 3 at an international beauty contest.

In September 2009, Mariyah represented Pakistan in the Miss Intercontinental held in Minsk, Belarus. Miss Afghanistan, Zallascht Sadat, also took part in this beauty pageant.

Mariyah Moten continues to model in the US and has attended the well-known New York Film Academy Acting School to pursue her career as an actress, and the opposition on her bikini appearances landed her on the cover of Sexy South Asian Girls 2007 calendar.

In 2009 Mariyah Moten received widespread news coverage when she met with former President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf (who is currently in self-exile) in Houston, Texas, USA.
