Talita Martins: Brazil Carnival Photo

Here is a great shot showing a scene from Brazil Carnival. According to the author of this photo, on ‘November 19th, Rio de Janeiro had undergone an emotional night at the "Cidade do Samba". The great party was to decide who would be the next 2011 Rio Carnival Queen and Momo King.” According to the accompanying report, at least 3000 people had gathered there to watch the samba and carnival contest in Rio de Janeiro. The results, the reports says, had Bianca Ferreira announced the Official Queen, while Jessica Maia and Isabela Picanço the official Rio Princesses. Vila Isabel, samba and platform sandals

Samba dancers are of the opinion that platform sandals, preferably with shiny straps and buckles that snake to the knee, help prevent them from tipping over and injuring their ankles, while dancing the lightning-quick gyrations of the samba dance.

"Platforms are safer," said Iris Sol, a 28-year-old dancer for the drum section of the Barroca Zona Sul samba club in Sao Paulo, "I've paraded with samba troupes since I was six, but the truth is that I was dancing samba when I was born".

Sandals with platform heels push body weight onto the balls of the feet, where the samba dancers’ body weights are balanced. Samba platforms go as high as 17 centimeters, or 6.6 inches and heels are extra wide.

"Platforms make women more beautiful, elegant and taller, with better posture. They help you stick out your chest and butt a bit," said Magaly Santos, 22, Sao Paulo's 2005 Carnival queen.

The carnival at Sao Paulo attracts a lot of international tourists, especially celebrities from all fields of culture and entertainment. And it is nice watch them through pictures, videos and television for those who cannot go there, thanks to contributors like the author of this photo.

Brazilian dance

Brazilian dance

Brazilian dance, Samba, is a lively, rhythmical dance of Brazilian origin and danced under the Samba music. There are three steps to every bar, making the Samba feel like a 3/4 timed dance, though it is a 2/4 timed dance. Its origins include the Maxixe.

The Samba music rhythm has been danced in Brazil since its inception in the late 19th century. There is actually a set of dances, rather than a single dance, that define the Samba dancing scene in Brazil. Thus, no one dance can be claimed with certainty as the "original" Samba style. Another major stream of the Samba dance besides the Brazilian Samba dancing styles is Ballroom Samba which differs significantly.
