The English actress Andrea Louise Riseborough, 30, who grew up in Whitley Bay, as the daughter of "working-class Thatcherites" (as she described her parents), has acted in a number of television productions and films, including Venus (2006 film), Magicians (2007 British comedy film), Happy-Go-Lucky (2008 British Comedy-drama film), Made in Dagenham (2010 British film released as We Want Sex Equality in France, and re-titled as We Want Sex in Germany and Italy), Never Let Me Go (2010 British drama film), Brighton Rock is (2010 British film), W.E. (a romantic drama film, 2011) and Welcome to the Punch a British thriller scheduled for release in 2012).

In ‘Margaret Thatcher - The Long Walk to Finchley’, a 2008 BBC Four television drama, Andrea Riseborough portrayed the role of the young Margaret Thatcher (nee Margaret Roberts) trying to shape her political career and facing many hurdles till her winning of the Finchley seat in the 1959 election. The TV drama also throws light on portrays Margaret Thatcher’s personal relationship and marriage with Denis Thatcher. For her portrayal of Thatcher Andrea Riseborough was nominated for a BAFTA TV Award.
